BACKGROUND AND GENESIS

Mahila Janaswasthya Shishu Kalyan Kendra (MAJSHIK) has completed 25 years, working for the upliftment of society. Literally, it is a centre for health of women and children and a centre for child welfare. MAJSHIK was started by 9 like-minded people. The aim was to work towards the health care of the underprivileged and unprivileged, i.e. poor women and children. The underlying thought was to strengthen and nurture the most neglected lot of society because only healthy citizens can take up the responsibility of building the country in the sense of national reconstruction.

In the present context, 60% of the population belongs to the poorest category which cannot relish even two square meals a day, let alone other facilities. In the light of such a situation, it becomes imperative to save these women and children from health hazards. As we think that health is not only related to immunisation and medicine, but is something which also affects the development and awareness in totality, it is the foundation of development institutions of the poor and integrates with other aspects of development, like education, income generation, better environment and awareness of rights.

MISSION

Our mission is to reach one lakh families and provide them with sustainable livelihood support, opportunities to learn and express themselves, development of basic amenities and infrastructure by 2025.

VISION

We aspire to be a just society irrespective of caste, creed and religion, where there are no underdevelopment/unprivileged. We consider development as something which cannot be imposed, it comes through the conscious efforts of people. Our role is to work as a catalyst in the society. We involve people and ensure their full participation in each and every development activity. Our upside down approach is the key to our sincere efforts which result in proper output. Our aim is to provide opportunities for their development.

Voluntarism is the first and foremost important element for development workers. The aim to build a cadre of such people in the village itself is our priority because in their absence, the development of society as well as that of the community is not possible. The very thinking and understanding about development is the need of the hour. Programmes cannot work for development without these.
